Kansas City Acupuncture Clinic Helps Women Using Donor Egg IVF Achieve Pregnancy

Just recently I received the excellent news that a patient is pregnant!  It's always an exciting time when a patient calls and shares the happy news.  This time it was extra special.
I had worked with this patient for over a year as she prepped for 2 different IVF cycles.  She was understandably so disappointed when the first IVF cycle with her own eggs failed.  Her RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) then suggested that she consider using Donor Eggs because everything about the cycle had been ideal in regards to lining, etc.
She decided to go with a Donor Egg IVF cycle a few months ago and prepared her body with Chiropractic Adjustments as well as regular Acupuncture sessions as a complement to the protocol that her Reproductive Endocrinologist was using.
How can Chiropractic care help with fertility issues?
Chiropractic is a natural healing method that works on balancing the nervous system, which in turn promotes hormone balance.  In fact there are neuroendocrine cells in the body which which receive signals from the nervous system, which that cell interprets to know which hormones to release into the bloods stream.  If there is compromise or irritation to your nervous system, you can see how that might hamper your body's normal ability to release hormones that impact fertility including estrogen, progesterone, FSH, LH and more.
Chiropractors look for misalignment of the spine and joints, and then adjust the alignment to remove any interference or irritation to the nervous system.  This promotes more normal functioning of the entire body including hormones.
How does Acupuncture work and how can it help fertility problems?
Acupuncture also works to balance the nervous system and neuroendocrine system.  Acupuncture is a system of looking for and treating energetic imbalances in the body.  Any underlying physical, mental, chemical, or emotional imbalance will have a corresponding energy imbalance.  There are Acupuncture meridians that course through your body and connect with different organ systems including the reproductive organs, pituitary gland, pineal glad, and many more.  By balancing what is "off" in the body, it promotes more balanced and normal functioning.
I have seen patients have improved FSH numbers (going from 60 to 20 in just a few months of consistent treatment), and also patients in IVF cycles who surprise their Doctors and Nurses by having better than expected estrogen levels and lining scans.
Perhaps one of the best side benefits to Acupuncture is the super relaxed feeling that patients have when they leave the office.  If you or someone you know has been trying to get pregnant for awhile, you know just how stressful the whole process can be.  Acupuncture helps you come down from the worry and anxiety.
Most of my patients that come in for help boosting their fertility also choose to have an Acupuncture treatment directly before their IVF transfer or IUI procedure.  There are studies now that show that before (and after) Acupuncture has increased success rates of pregnancy.
How many treatments does it take to help my fertility?
Everyone is different.  I have heard of patients getting pregnant on their first cycle with Acupuncture, while others can take 3 months to a year.  Each woman is different and that is why we give custom recommendations to each patient based upon their history and goals.

My preferred time frame to work with patients getting ready to go through and IVF cycle is starting regular Acupuncture sessions 3 months ahead of time.  If you are having your transfer in two weeks don't worry, some Acupuncture will definitely help more than no Acupuncture.
We work with patients in our office on a regular basis with boosting their fertility.  We have helped patients who are trying on their own, to patients who are taking Clomid or Letrozole (Femara), injectibles, IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer), and Donor Egg IVF.  We also have local Reproductive Endocrinologists that refer their patients to our office for Acupuncture.
