Neck Pain and Stiffness from Muscle Injury
Do you have pain or stiffness in your neck? Do you notice it when your turn your head? There are many things that could be causing this, so it is important to find the underlying cause.
A common cause of neck pain is a soft tissue injury to the muscles of the neck. This could be from a car accident, fall, sports injury, sleeping in an awkward position, repetitive movement of the neck, poor posture, or stress.
At our office, we see this complaint frequently. Many people carry their stress in their upper back and neck and seek help in finding relief from the pain. The neck pain and stiffness may be accompanied by radiating arm pain, shoulder pain, headaches, or jaw pain.
First, we have to do a complete exam to rule out any severe conditions or fractures. Once that has been ruled out, we can begin treatment. A treatment may consist of soft tissue massage, craniosacral therapy, cupping, specific adjustments to the neck and upper back, or kinesiology taping. A combination of these techniques and modalities can help decrease the pain level and speed up the healing time. During your visit, we make recommendations for lifestyle modifications and supplements you may need to further help your recovery. Many patients report decreased pain levels and increased range of motion after a few visits.
