Neck Pain, Stiff Neck and the Freezing Cold Weather

Chiropractor in Kansas City Helps Patients with Neck Pain, Stiff Necks, and Pinched Nerves from Exposure to Cold Weather

In case you haven't noticed...the wind chill is below zero today and tomorrow in Kansas City.

If you are like me, you get cold when you are just walking to the car in this weather, even when you have a coat, hat, and gloves!  Have you noticed that you are tensing and scrunching up your neck and shoulders to try and protect yourself from the cold weather?

Last night I was visiting a friend in the hospital.  Walking from the car to the hospital entrance, I started to become aware that I was tensing my neck and shoulders.  Even after I was in the warmth of the hospital my neck was still tight even though I relaxed my shoulders and was no longer cold.  Today I can still feel the tightness in my upper back on the right.  Who am I going to call....MY CHIROPRACTOR!

This is such a subtle yet common occurrence in the winter months.  I see patient after patient come in with a tight neck and shoulders.

For someone who hasn't been adjusted for awhile (or never been adjusted), they may not know that the cold weather is a HUGE trigger for neck and back misalignments.  Our bodies are not used to the cold weather and tend to tense and stiffen in response to the sudden drop in temperature.  Whether right away or a few days later, your back or neck is still tight and you are trying to figure out why it is bothering you.  Some patients even report that at night their hands "fall asleep" or tingle.  This is usually a sign that the lower neck and upper back are out of alignment to the point that certain sleeping positions are putting excess pressure on the nerves in those areas.

A simple Chiropractic adjustment can be the beginning of the end of your neck pain, tingling in the arms, or pinched nerveChiropractors gently realign the spine and other joints to balance the function of the nervous system, which in turn helps relax tight muscles and muscle spasms.

It is important to have a thorough consultation and exam with a Chiropractor so that they can determine if your problem is one that Chiropractic Care can help.  If you have had the neck pain or stiffness for only a few days, many times a few adjustments is all you will need to return to maximized health.  For patients that have had neck pain or a pinched nerve for months or years, your treatment frequency depends on your history, how well you take care of your body, as well as how quickly your body responds to care.

THE SOONER you get adjusted after a problem starts, the FASTER it heals!

A GREAT Chiropractor is worth their weight in gold, and can make a difference with all kinds of health problems, including neck pain, neck stiffness and pinched nervesChiropractors are well educated in musculoskeletal problems, organ malfunctions, nutrition, and much more.  They are an amazing resource of health information, and everyone should have a GREAT Chiropractor!  It is good for your health!

Slip or Fall in the Wintry Weather? See your Chiropractor ASAP!

Chiropractor in Kansas City Helps Patients with Neck and Back Pain after Slips and Falls in the Snow

As the snow falls today in Kansas City, I can't help but think of all the people who will slip, fall, get stressed out on their way home, or even worse...get in an auto accident.

Besides the obvious "BE CAREFUL!", it is so important for you to know to see your Chiropractor ASAP after a slip, fall, or especially after an accident!

Common symptoms after a slip, fall or accident:

-Headaches

-Neck Pain

-Tight shoulders

-Tingling or numbness in arms

-Pain when breathing in or out, or with twisting of the ribcage

-Lower back or hip pain

-A "catch" in the back which feels like you can't move certain ways without pain

-Numbness or tingling in legs

-Knee or ankle pain - especially in a slip and fall on ice or snow

It is important to rule out fracture or other injuries that may require surgical intervention in severe injuries, but once that is not an issue, get to your Chiropractor I always recommend getting adjusted within 8-24 hours of an accident, slip, or fall.  This helps reduce the amount of injury, soreness, and muscle spasms that have time to really "set in" on your body.

With a more severe injury, quick Chiropractic attention can take weeks to months off your recovery time.  That's right...WEEKS OR MONTHS!

Chiropractors are trained to detect and remove misalignments in joints throughout the body.  In nearly every injury I've treated, there are multiple areas of the body that are misaligned.  Adjustments to the spine and affected joints can provide relief that can be noticeable instantaneously, as well as cumulatively over time.  With any injury, it takes a series of treatments to realign the body and ensure that it has stabilized. The severity of your injury as well as your hydration level, diet, stress level, and sleeping habits will all play a role in how quickly you will heal.  A great Chiropractor coaches their patients on all of these aspects to ensure the quickest possible recovery.

I am very thorough with each patient to uncover all the areas that need attention and correction.  With Chiropractic care, proper hydration, and the right home care follow up, you can feel great again!
